Frequently Asked Questions
How long will it take to get my new artwork?
Please allow three to six weeks upon our receipt of your payment and/or gift certificate - see “Delivery” under Purchasing - Fine Art.
Do you have a studio I can visit?
As a nature photographer, Anne King’s studio is the great outdoors. To view actual prints and meet the artist, you have to either attend an upcoming show per the Show Schedule or arrange an appointment by emailing or calling us at 613-233-6887.
Image Sizes
Why are your image sizes for example 6”x9” vs. 8”x10”?
AKNP’s image sizes are known in the industry as full-frame images, which are preferred for fine-art presentations. (There is no connection between a full-frame image and a framed image.) Full-frame images reflect the composition that was photographed on the film in the field. The standard sizes you refer to are actually cropped versions of the original 35mm images anyone exposes in the field, including you. When you bring your film in for processing and printing, automated machinery crops your pictures on both sides of the full frame, or on the top and bottom in the case of a vertical composition.
(There is currently one image in the Colour Gallery that measures 5.5”x9” vs. 6”x9”, Highland Tapestry, and one image in the B&W Gallery, Mother and Fawn. These images required cropping. Anne uses fixed vs. zoom lenses as the former are technically superior, and sometimes in the field there is only one way to get an image of a subject matter because there’s only one way in. In the case of Highland Tapestry, for example, Anne is on top of a mountain with a sheer cliff in front of her, thick winter bush around her, and a mighty wind to boot!)
Can I order an image size smaller or larger than the sizes listed on the website?
Custom-sized prints are available. Please Contact Us with your particular requirements.
Matting & Framing
Schools of Thought
Some people choose framing to compliment the room in which the print will hang. Some people choose framing to compliment only the print itself so that it can usually hang in any room. AKNP provides gallery-presentation framing that allows the artwork to hang anywhere at any time in you or your gift recipient’s life. Gallery-presentation framing is a professional standard recognized around the world that allows the artwork to move very easily from office, for example, to home to cottage.
Can I use a regular store-bought frame vs. custom framing?
Absolutely. The image isn’t precisely centred inside a standard-sized pre-fabricated frame, but it’s an aesthetic choice that some people actually prefer.
We fully appreciate that custom matting and framing are expensive. We’ve designed our 6”x9” prints on 8-1/2″ x 11″ photo paper and with an extra border so that people can frame the print in a standard 8-1/2″ x 11″ frame, or 8″ x 10″ frame after cutting the photo paper, without any matting. However, we strongly, strongly advise you to spend some of the money you saved on matting and framing on having a professional framer mount and assemble the print properly. We also suggest you purchase a standard-sized frame without glass and have your framer use non-glare glass.
Proper Mounting - If your artwork is not mounted and assembled properly, preferably by a professional, the print will definitely warp with temperature fluctuations.
Other Mounts - You might also consider mounting the print on a plaque-type board that is then laminated. It’s a very simple and much less costly technique. Just make sure the sides of the plaque are painted black. Talk to your framer.
Can I license a gallery image for editorial or commercial use?
If you would like to publish any gallery image, you must contact AKNP directly. AKNP is committed to the integrity of our clients’ investment in Canadian art. Only if the use of said gallery image in no way decreases the value of our clients’ investment will AKNP consider the editorial or commercial use of the image on a case-by-case basis. If approved, the gallery image will be processed as a licensed stock image for the purposes of the transaction.
Can I get a fine-art print of a stock image?
If you would like a fine-art print of a stock image, AKNP might be able to accommodate you depending on any licenses for the stock image in effect at the time. If approved, the stock image will be processed as a gallery image for the purposes of the transaction.
Do you conduct workshops?
Not yet. It IS something we’re seriously considering down the road however. Click here for Anne King’s “Artist’s Statement.”
If I send you some of my photos, would you consider selling them?
Please do not send us your photographs. We do not critique, publish, or sell other people’s work. Your photographs will not be returned to you.
